The price on a LOT of canon lenses have gone up... dispite the rebate.
Have you looked into the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8? I picked mine up for 600 bucks shipped from B&H and it works great

I wonder if these price increases will be reflected in the resale value?

They should be unless the perception is that the lens has priced itself beyond what the market will bear.

The prices will come down when the market bounces back, but the market won't bounce back for quite some time. I'm glad I bought my lenses when I did, because there's no way I could pay the prices now. I got my 17-40L for $600 from Amazon at the beginning of January. It's at $750 or so on Amazon right now. That is well outside of my price zone.

I bought mine lightly used for $575 last week, and it looks brand new.
So no I don't think you should feel stupid but I can't imagine selling my 10-22.

Maybe. I could sell my 17-40L for what I paid if there was none available at a particular time on the boards. I sold my 24-70L for more than what I paid, because the used market felt it was worth more than what I paid. If it had a hood I could have easily sold it for $1k. It didn't have a hood, so I didn't sell it for that much. I definitely made enough money to fly out of town and buy the Sigma 50 1.4. I didn't use the 24-70 much at all.

I saw the 50L for... get this... $3,000 on Amazon 2 weeks ago. A few days later it dropped to $1900, which is still stupid expensive.

The day the rebate was announced, many retailers upped their prices the same amount as the rebates. I get so sick of this price gouging.

I have because the lower price, the hefty build and the f2.8 really look great. But after reading some reviews on POTN, the lens flare and CA issues really worry me.

I'm kicking myself everyday ... I still have the piece of paper where I wrote down:

10-22 $629
100 macro $445

those days are gone

I did manage to lock in the 10-22 for $710 delivered (includes New York State taxes) on Amazon last week. It took a lot of checking to catch the price at a low. But, and there's always a but, it is not available (and this is an Amazon guess) until late July. That just blows. Nobody has them in stock.

A lot of Japanese manufacturers stopped production as a reaction to the global recession. They did this to reduce if not eliminate existing inventories. I am hoping that in a few months prices will come down again. Right now supply and demand is directly affecting the market. I am hoping to see better prices on Blackfriday :D
