I actually never really expected to even see one of these so despite the horrid background I love this shot.

I'd only seen a picture in my Colorado Bird Books but knew immediately what it was. Very unusual shape and coloring Duane N wrote in post #7952618 Did it fly into the window? ![]() Either way...nice catch..never seen nor heard one. Not to my knowledge. It was slightly overcast this afternoon and the books says they are active in evenings catching flying insects etc. It didn't appear to be injured and flew off when I had taken a few shots. Shar824 wrote in post #7952621 Wow Kenny how lucky......I would love to see one of these around here. Great shot! Thanks Sharon. I was pretty astonished to see it myself. nwyman wrote in post #7952624 what a marvel! Thank you sir! canonloader wrote in post #7952630 Wow, fantastic catch. Did he let you get close? I first tried to shoot through the window but that just wasn't working so went out and shot a few from the patio about 20 ft away and then moved off the patio a couple of steps and got this one just before he got nervous and flew. No problem flying away. You can just barely see the toenails in the lower front if you look closely. ngannet wrote in post #7952902 Tremendous find! I'm sure it's likely the same family but the book also says it's related to the Common Nighthawk which is approximately the same shape but a bit bigger. Kenny A. Chaffin
