If it walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, then what's that thing in it's butt?

I work in downtown London (Ontario, Canada that is), and went down to Harris Park by the Thames River on my lunch today. Took the S3 with me to take some photos, and was amazed by how many ducks were sunning themselves. Took a bunch of photos, and here are the best of them (at least the best for me :) ). Think I may go back tomorrow with the XTi and do some comparisons between cameras.

Al

1) Didn't notice this until I went to crop and resize. Looks like a branch sticking out of the duck's butt!!?? If it isn't a branch, any idea what it might be? My son thought it might be in the middle of a bathroom break!

2) These two guys were just watching out over the river. Also didn't notice the bird flying by until I got home.

3) These two guys were pretty friendly. They had actually started walking over to me...

4) ... when this guy came over quacking and chased them away.

5) This guy was really cute and I think it is pretty young. Photo is a bit soft, but I like it anyway.

That is a Canadian goose with something sticking out of it's butt, you might want to call the local animal care centre about that. Whatever it is might pass with a little help form a vet.

All the best,

All the best,

I guess it is pretty plain to see that I don't know much about birds! Never really paid them much attention until I got my camera. Lot's to learn.
