Basically this is what I want to do, to have a flash on camera a 580ex II on ettl. Also want 2 or 3 other flashes to be triggered at the same time 383's in manual. I've done this with V2, but it is very unreliable. People are praising the new Ctr301P and PT-04 IS.

my questions are
1. Since the ctr301p transmitter doesn't have a sync port, is there a way to use this without attaching it to the hot shoe? how about a hot shoe adapter with sync cord? like this (external link)

2. my second option is to use PT-04.
what is the difference between PT-04 IS and PT-04 CN?

I would rather get the ctr301P, but if the only option is to get the PT-04, then I will go that route instead.

Thanks guys
