Hello,

I want to buy either the 28 1.8 or 85 1.8 lens and don't know which would be best!
I have the 50 1.8, 10-22, 28-75 and 70-200. I shoot a lot of cat pictures, a lot of toddler pictures and scenery pictures. Any thoughts on which lens is best for what, or which would best compliment what I have?
Thanks,
Molly

I'm assuming that the toddler and cat pics are taken inside. If so, you might find that the 85 is too long.

Also, the 28 would probably be better than the 85 for the landscapes and scenery.

I'd suggest spending some more time with the 28-75 to see which end of it you would use more for all those shots. Or, you could just walk around with the fifty and see if you want more or less reach. It really depends on what focal length you need more.

Thanks, I think the 85 would be too long for inside.

That 28 is wider than the 50 though, correct- I have the XSI- and I would like something wider than the 50.

You have the 70-200, so you can use it to evaluate how the 85 would look on your body. For those things you said you use it for... well, it would obviously suck. If you're on 1.6x, 28/1.8 is obviously the best choice. Is the 50mm-field-equivalent PLUS you get fast USM (which the 50/1.8 doesn't have). It's a must for catching toddlers and cats, since they move fast.

If you can swing both, you'll be VERY happy....A majority of my shooting is with my 30 and 85 primes. If you shoot kids (I have an "almost" toddler), then you'll be able to capture a wide range of shots with these two lenses.

Thanks, I think I will look for a good price on the 28, I would like the 30 Sigma, but since I purchase online I worry about getting a sharp copy.

Thanks for all the input,
Molly

If it helps, I bought my Sigma 30 from B&H and it focuses perfectly.
