I was able to purchase a 50D, 70-200 L F2.8IS, and 580ExIII, for my employment. I have been shooting Canon 10 and 20D over the last 5 years or so. I had wanted to purchase a 50D this year to replace the 20D, so this was a great chance to try the goods with no risk. I had been worried about the claims it wasn't sharp......
Well....all I can say is WOW!!!!! What a combo...the image quality is out of this world, the resolution is outstanding, and the sharpness unparalleled. I still haven't tried everything on the body, but it was an easy transition from the other XXD series. I have always kind of been against IS, but on this lens it works well. This camera combo will be used for aerial surveillance in addition to other uses so I am excited to get the chance to try.
I shot a photo of one of our aircraft instrument panels at the 70MM setting through an open door, from about 10 feet back, the resolution was so clear I could zoom in and read clearly the "smoking prohibited" placard that was about 1/2" tall... needless to say this will be my next purchase for personal use as well.

Got to give that 70-200 lens some credit also as I placed it on my 5D MK II and couldn't believe how it knocked the socks off the 50D using the same lens.
