BUT its not the largest auto focus lens, we still own that prize :)

Lenses are more important than bodies, therefore a red stripe on a lens is better than a red stripe on a body ;)

It sure looks like a canon strap.

The Beast! A 1200-1700mm f5.6 IF-ED Nikon zoom converted to Canon. The tripod a gigantic Manfroto with a video head.

The other guy that was with him had a lot of Canon gear as well... Look what is lying around

Canon makes/made many lenses longer than 1200 and 1700mm.

Yeah, the 5200mm, but that's not portable at all :)

Brand loyalism is near sighted. Nikon was for DECADES the #1 choice of professionals, and Canon only finally caught up (fairly recently) with the EOS system, and its dominance in digital sensors/processors. Don't be surprised if Nikon emerges on top again some day! Choose your brand on the situation at the moment of purchase, and how well it meets your needs! Chevy. Ford; Lexus, Acura...same kind of issue.

x2

Perhaps even an unknown or unexpected brand will be on top before long. Sony's got some clout, Red seems to be gunning for some DSLR market, Pentax just realeased a killer camera, etc, etc.

...based upon Minolta, never a strong player in the pro SLR market (though good in pro light meters). And the newest Sony dSLR does run not very well in the low noise high ISO category, compared to current Canon and Nikon dSLRs
