Light Stands Question.

Can anyone recommend me a good one. Price range is like <$100 looking for something around 8+ in height. Can any type of swivels/mount go on any stand?

The Impact Studio lightstands work very well. $20
I regularly use mine to hold a DLite4 and 24x32 softbox without issue.

also the Impact umbrella bracket are made pretty well. $14
I use those also regarulaly to hold my Impact umbrellas and vivitar flashes without problems.

Thank you, I will take a look. I needed a second stand for my 580exII. My current stand isn't doing so well. I have no idea the brand name, and I just wanted to get a good brand that'll hold up well. Cause the one I purchased a bit ago isn't holding up =)

I'll tell you four things:

1. All stand manufacturers are optimistic about the sturdiness of their stands. Never get a stand that isn't rated by the manufacturer as at least "heavy duty."

2. Like a tripod, a stand is more sturdy when it's not raised to full height. Like a tripod, a stand with fewer sections is more sturdy than a stand with more sectioins. So you want a stand that actually extends much higher than you think you need, and doesn't collapse particularly compactly.

3. You definitely want a cushioned stand. Some Chinese-made stands have spring cushions, which is better than nothing, but air cushioning is far superior.

4. Professional cine stands are more sturdy than still photography stands, although considerably more pricey.
