As the weather looks not too great for the next few weeks, I've decided to pack of my 120-400mm zoom to Sigma to see if they can sort out a soft focus issue.

Anyone used them recently and can advise on the likley turnaround?

Cheers

Tony

I had the focus motor and circuit replaced in my 500 f/4.5 as the effects of age were starting to show. They took approx 3 weeks in total. You have to send in the lens, they will then quote you for the work. You have to accept the quote then they do it and send it back.

I was more than happy with the work. The new motor simply flies on to targets with pinpoint accuracy.

That's not too bad, mine is still under the 1 year warranty, so it 'should' be free.

Thanks

Tony

are you going to send body and lens in for calibration?
I would imagine a front-/backfocus issue is best solved when calibrating both the body and the lens together?

I cannot do without the body for that length of time

I've had a different 120-400, a 150-500 and a 100-400L on the body and they are all pin-sharp. I have a feeling it 'may' be OS system as it sounds noticeably nosier than OS on other 120-400's and 150-500's I've managed to grab a use of.

It took them 4 weeks to get my 24-70 calibrated though they still had a backlog from the Focus on Imaging show to go through when I sent mine in.

Got to admit though the lens is now near perfect, I wouldn't say its as good as the 24-70L but it was a hell of a lot cheaper and I can cope with the slight loss in saturation.

Yes it should be free for you. When I emailed them to ask for the procedure they also told me the expected turnaround time. The service dept. email address is on their website. I did not send in a camera body but did tell them which bodies I use.

Thanks for the replies.

Just noticed that the service centre is in Weleyn Garden City, can't believe it, I was in Stevenage on Monday only 5 miles away!!!

I could have dropped it off , but I now have to trust it to the not-so careful hands of Royal Mail :(

My 120-400 had to go back for the servo focus/reduced frame rate burst problem the first lenses had. Included copy of receipt and lens returned to me just over two weeks after posting.

It's the postal insurance that gets you. I used RM special delivery and it cost over 20 quid to ship!
