Thank you, James and Steve. You both stated what I was thinking, only you did it better than I did.

Anytime ozziepuppy, I think you did just fine on your own though. So, do you have an update for us ?

The outcome of this thread will determine if my g/f gets her 50D from Robert's Imaging or elsewhere

I talked with them yesterday. It took about ten minutes for them to somehow "check on what the price was online on the date I purchased it." They said that I was right, that on the date I purchased it the price was indeed $490, not the $525 that was charged to my credit card. They said that Canon had raised the price the week after I bought the lens. [So how did I get charged the "new" higher price when I had ordered the lens online the previous week?] They said they would refund the money and that I would receive a confirmation e-mail from them in about 10 minutes. That was yesterday. I have still received no e-mail and no refund. I am about to call them again.

I just called them and the person I talked to said she "had a note to refund $35" but "hadn't gotten around to doing it last night." [?] She said she had just done it. Then she said it would "probably take about three days for the credit to show up."

By the way, I ordered the lens on May 15th and did not get it for 8 days, even though I paid over $15 in shipping from Indiana to Kansas.

Maybe I would feel differently if I lived in Indianapolis and could go to the store in person, but for online ordering, this is not up to par. I am not happy with (a) being charged $35 more than I should have been; (b) not receiving a confirmation e-mail when the lens shipped [which they said I would be getting]; (c) waiting 8 days to get the lens even though it only had to go from Indiana to Kansas and I paid more than $15 shipping fees [they did not even send it out for 5 days--I know because I called them to check on it and they had not sent it yet on the day I called]; and (d) the credit not being issued when they said it was [nor that night, nor the next morning--in fact, not for more than 24 hours after they said it would be done]. I also never got an apology for all the hassle.

Still disappointed. Sorry.

Sorry you had a bad experience with Roberts, but you got your lens and your refund without any argument so that's good. I have only dealt with Roberts in the store and they have always been great to deal with, but it sounds to me like they need to get a little more organized with their online operation and communicating with the customers. When I read your original complaint I had no doubt that they would make things right with you though. Personally, I would still give them my business any day of the week even if I had to wait a week for shipping because I know if their is a problem of any kind they will work with me to make it right like they always do;)

Oh and $15 bucks to ship a lens (Insured) 0ver 800 miles doesn't sound that bad to me, and it probably didn't go out until Monday (18th) since it was ordered on Friday right? I've had that happen to me several times...still sounds like they need to get those orders out quicker though if that's the case, I don't like waiting either!
Write them a letter or talk to the manager about your experience, you may not order from them again but you just might make the next online ordering experience for someone else a little better.

I ordered it at around 7 AM that morning, prior to leaving for work. And it was not shipped out until the night of the following Tuesday (so it actually probably went out on Wednesday). I called them late in the day on Tuesday and they said they were "going to ship it out that night." I did not ever get the shipping confirmation (nor tracking number) either.

Of course I am glad to have the lens, at the price advertised. After an online order, an e-mail, three telephone calls, and two weeks. Oh wait, I still don't have the refund. That will take about another three days to show up. So yeah, all's well that ends well. It could be worse and all that. If I am ever in Indianapolis I will stop by. But I won't be ordering online again in the near future.

I just got an e-mail stating that I would get the $35.00 refund. So that's good.

And the lens was packed nicely and arrived safely.

well at least it all worked out in the end :) Too bad you had a bit of a hassle, but you saved money over buying elsewhere, and got a lens thats tough to find available at that price :)

As long as your phone bill is under $35... haha :)

By the way, for others interested in this lens, newegg still has it for the old price and it is due to arrive day after tomorrow, apparently. (I got my XSi and some other stuff from newegg and they do a great job with everything. I would buy more from them but they do not have the selection that B&H does, so sometimes they do not have what I want.) Anyway, this is a screenshot I just took:

I just ordered the 50mm 1.4 from them for $325 this morning, which is $75 less than B&H/Adorama. Today is Wednesday, and I have a UPS tracking number already that says it will be delivered (in Kansas City) Friday. I paid for normal ground shipping. If it all works out (no over charges, correct item, etc.) I'm going to be extremely pleased.

Oh, and this was after cancelling my order with Calumet, as they can't seem to get the lens in stock.

Looks like a happy ending even though you had to jump through a few hoops. I know you were gettting frustrated, but good to hear all ended well.

I will be giving them a shot with a 50D purchase.

Let us know how it goes. I am thinking a telephone order might go a little better. ;)
