Since when does Amazon build in a shipping delay on items?

This is really pretty lame, in my opinion. It is one thing with the free "Super Saver" shipping, but for the past few months I have noticed that even though I upgrade to the shipping you actually have to pay for, there is STILL a delay in the shipping! I don't ever remember this being the case and I've spent years ordering there, giving them probably over $5k USD since I started shopping there years ago.

These are all items 'in stock and shipped by' Amazon.

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm getting more sick of this place by the week it seems, with the randy vendors and decline in customer service.

If only Zappos.com sold camera stuff...

I noticed the same thing but I just received an item I ordered which they estimated the delivery time to be 2-3 week in just 5 days. It was using the Super Saver shipping.

I don't think they are really in stock - they are ordering as they get orders. I have a 10-22 on order and they estimate a late july delivery. I keep looking for someone to beat that price and then I will cancel and buy elsewhere, until then ...

Until a couple of months ago, they shipped my orders the same day or the next. The last few times I ordered, Amazon took 3 to 7 days to fill my orders and ship them. They definitely slowed down, probably as a result of cutting shifts or staff in response to slower sales.

Yeah, this. My item is DEFINITELY in stock and they said that they could ship it now (Saturday) if I upgraded my shipping. Give me a break....

I can't recall ever having this shipping delay issue. For me, if the item says it's in stock and sold by Amazon, it ships the same day unless I missed the shipping cut-off time.

I agree, they usually ship that day you order the items or next day.

Super Saver, Standard, or some other option?

That is probably why there's no delay :)

The Super Saver Shipping use to be shipped the same day or next day, if the item was in stock, until they started offering Amazon Prime. Lame. I'm usually patient and can wait for an item, for me it's the principle of the thing. If I need something sooner I order it from B&H and give them my shipping money.

I use the free shipping (Super Saver), but don't see why that should affect when the item is picked for shipping. It should be picked that day or the next day (come on it's managed by computer). Special handling is different - it is done ASAP. But there is no reason for it to take more than a few days to get into the shipping system.

Yes, they could ship it now if you pay them extra so that it is worth them sending a person to that shelf in the warehouse to specifically get it so they can get it wrapped up and out the door.

When you don't pay for expedited shipping, they pick the item off the shelf when they are getting everyone else's orders. They put it in a big cart and when the cart is full they take it to get wrapped up and sent out. This might take 5 hours instead of the 15 minutes it takes the guy that is going there for only your item.

And yes, I'm sure amazon has a much more sophisticated system than some kid with a cart, but I'm generalizing. :)

Kind of like getting your car serviced. If you want it done within an hour you can pay extra for them to put it on the lift right after you drop it off. If you don't want to pay extra, you can wait in line like everyone else and they'll do it when they aren't busy with everything else.

Except I paid for the upgraded shipping in the first place.
