I went into a little store that in this area and saw 3 copies of the Canon 10-22 (NOBODY has these) and asked how much they were selling for. The answer was more than $800.

OK, so I see the Canon 50 f1.4 and ask. Price = $389 :)
Cheaper than Amazon or B&H. So, I immediately take it. Talk it up withthe sales rep and she gives me a further discount to $369 !!!

They have restored my faith in little stores. I knew the service was always there, but now price too?

The store was Berger Brothers on Long Island.

Thats awesome and odd...

I went to their website and I think B&H hiked the prices (again) recently as I thought I remember looking at this lens about a week or so ago and it was still in the $360 range....

Good buy for you though!

I can say that I really like Berger Brothers. Specially if you get to know the staff and they get to know you. If you go to the store in Amityville ask for Dan N -- very good guy to work with.

Canon 50 1.4 is $354 at amazon, but it's not in stock. I just went through my order history and realized at the price of 50 1.8 has gone up from $70 in early 2008 to $120!

that seems to be a growing problem with Amazon - never in stock. They can reduce there costs by keeping stock to a minimum.

Not bad really :)

Man though, the price hikes suck..I paid $350 for my 50mm f/1.4 from a "high priced" retailer in '04-05

It does. But you never know if they will ever bounce back. I'm kicking myself because I didn't buy during the Fall rebates when the 10-22 was $629 and the 100mm macro was $445. GRRRRRRRR

I regret not running to circuit city and buying the 100 macro when they were clearing them out for $300 or less

Yup, I went to several Circuit City stores near me and they didn't have them.
