I am not sure if this is the right place for this, new here, and I've had my 40D for a week.

There is something on the viewfinder - specks of dust or something, but they do not appear in the pictures. I tried the camera self cleaning and I have a blower, which I used as well...it is not the lens as I can see the specks when the lens is removed.

Any ideas at all? Please? ???

The dirt/dust can be on one or all of three different places; the focus screen, behind the focus screen and on the penta-prism itself or the mirror or any combination of the three. If you have a sensor loupe, this could probably help you identify where specifically the dust is and then make use of your bulb blower to blow them away. If the dust is stubborn and welded on via static charge, you may need to seek out specialized swabs and fluids to clean then properly.

Alternatively, you could always just get the body professionally cleaned or just live with the spots as they aren't affecting the pictures you take.

Cheers!

If you can see the specks clearly, they are likely on the upper surface of the focusing screen. You can try to puff upwards above the mirror to see if they move, but don't puff to hard or you may make matters worse. You may need to take out the focusing screen to puff off the upper side, but be warned! don't touch the surface of the screen with fingers, cloths or any liquid, otherwise you will be spending $30 on a new one.

Please read this thread, it's all there:

Also good thread to check, https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=698461 .

Same question, made 8 hours before your thread. There is a reason that the site has a search feature, please learn to use it.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Thanks for the feeback!

I think I made things worse with the blower...

I will have to wait until I get somewhere that I can have this cleaned, I'm in Chile and I don't know of any qualified shops around here.

I have a XSI and have specs in the viewfinder, I seen them one day and got worried it was in my camera, but luckly they dont show in the pictures, its hard to keep the view finder clean. it seems to collect little specs pretty easily.
