Any way to set camera not to fire when flash isn't charged?

Is there anyway to set the camera not to fire unless the flash is charged when using a flash? I know there is a flash icon in the viewfinder, but I find it very inconvenient to watch for that before I take a shot. I used to be able to hear if the flash was charged, but ever since I've had the 580ex2 and the 430ex2, I have become dependent on that little icon in the viewfinder. What does everyone else do?

No, at least not on my 5d2 and older Elan 2e. The camera will fire. If you want a faster re-cycle then you'll have to purchase an external battery for your flash. If that's not an option then you'll just have to wait for it to recycle or set a higher ISO so it won't fire full blast. When I shot weddings a long time ago, I used a turbo battery for my flash and never had problems waiting for the flash to recycle. Hope that helps.

You can limit your camera to your recharge rate. So basically stick some nickel metal hydroxide batteries in the flash, and fire at less than 1/2 power, and you can get 3fps (1/2 power I can pull off 1fps, 1/4 about 3fps, 1/8 about 5fps, 1/16 I can usually get 10fps for the 14 shot buffer of mkiii with NR). Maybe it's not what you're looking for, but works like a charm

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
