Now, In Lightroom, Just so I don't make a huge mess. I've tried unsuccessfully to copy meta data to all my files. What I have done is to create the few simple things I want in metadata (copyright, name, etc.) and I wanted to add it to all my files. The only option I saw under metadata that wasn't grayed out was 'save metadata to .xmp file' so I chose that and it worked away for about half an hour. Did I erase my cameara data from the files? I've opened a few files and the metadata does not show up for the info. I did select my saved metadata file before I started the process. I assumed you would just select all files and then save metadata to files.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a simple step-by-step process to save, append metadata to my files? I do not want to erase camera data.

Thanks,

Ken

Also, now another problem: I opened a CR2 file in Photoshop (edited from Lightroom) and changed the metadata by hand and saved it, but instead of saving that data to the file it save another entirely new file so now I have two files: version 1 of 2 and version 2 of 2. I only wanted one file with the correct metadata in it.

I'm not doing very well with this right now. Can anyone straighten me out?

TIA,

Ken

I'm going to leave the computer now because I'm causing more harm than good. I'll come back later and see if someone can help with an answer to this post.

Ken,
as far as metadata in LR...
Stay in the library module.
first setup meta data in one picture. keep it highlighted.
grab spray can and then select meta-data.
Every file you click w/ the spray can will pick up the meta data. You can do settings/keywords/ etc...
This is one way - i'm sure there is something in the pull down menu.

Later,
_Mark

You can also click "sync metadata". Hitting the alt key before clicking on sync metadata will bypass the options window and automatically sync the info.

I have never really dabbled with NR even with my noisy 1Ds. Noobie question: LR has built-in NR? Are NR plugins already available for LR (e.g. NoiseNinja)?

As you've seen, LR does have built-in NR. Noise Ninja have developed a plug-in for LR but, as with most LR plugins, it works by exporting a tiff from LR to NN, then sending the tiff back to LR. So it don't work on the raw image data.

I'm a noobie too!

Re: NR, is the answer above indicating that LR has NR built-in? Or, is the screen shot from a Plug-in?

Screenshot is LR2. I updated my post to be clearer ;)

Or just select all images in the Library module, and start adding metadata. It'll be applied to all selected images....

There's more than two ways to skin a cat.;)

You can also do it that way, but I guess I was saying a less than obvious way...

This forum is the best.

I've got plenty to marvel at just from the replies here.
