Hi All

I all too rarely take close up or macro images but sometimes wee beasties catch my attention :D

Went to the RHS @ Wisley yesterday afternoon ~ took a variety of shots but this one was a challenge. Only took my 40D and 24-105 which does passable 'macro' but this plant was moving ever so slightly and what I did was was pre focus to get it in the macro range, switch to MF and "balance my movements" to get the shot. A bit hit & miss as the DoF is so thin but this frame is almost 3D out of the few that looked good. For the record I would guesstimate the green abdomen was 3mm long

I have no idea what spider this is so if someone can enlighten me that would be welcome?

Good one - your shooting method is similar to what many practiced macro shooters use.
Looks like an orbweb spider Araniella cucurbitina. These spiders seem to suffer from vertigo and often spin webs just a cm or so above a surface such as a leaf or flower.

Hi Brian

Many thanks for the feedback re technique and species, I must look it up now you have put me on the right track :) I did forget to say (in case it is not obvious) that this image is a crop of approx a 1/5 of the full frame area.

Cool shot of the spidey! Also, I find your signature hilarious. I'm using that next time someone says "Great shots! No wonder, with a lens like that!"
