Hi Chris! I don't post much, but I'll put my 2 cents worth in. I own the 100mm F/2.8 and have found it to be an excellent lens. Works great for macros and portraits. The way I got it was that I went out on the net and found a great price or it from a legitimate seller. I then went to Best Buy and they matched the price. If you'd like to have the lens, but want to save the money, you might see if this method would fall under your budget. If not, then I would definitely recommend Tamron products. I own several of their lenses and have found them to be of excellent quality. Hope this helps! Here's a sample from the Canon lens.....

I have the Sigma 105 and it's a great lens. I really love it. Here's an example:

Why would one have regrets using the Tokina, Tamron or Sigma? All test extemely sharp, all are f2.8, and all focus down to 1:1.

Check out the macro forum. One of the best, use's a Sigma 105mm.

I have bought the 100mm Macro twice now. I suggest you buy it once and then keep it. :) Also highly recommend the 60mm Macro. It is also a great lens. I have not tried any of the others.

I've got both the EF100 and the Sigma 105 and I'd say that they're inseperable as far as sharpness and rendition goes. The Sigma is clearly much noisier when using AF if you also intend to use it as a medium telephoto. For purely macro use then only copy variation is likely to separate them.
