New to forum and will be purchasing the Canon EOS XSi very soon.

Obviously doing research and trying to find a good price on a brand new model.

Discovered this forum and one of the advertisers is: www.jerseyshoredigital.com (external link)

Has anyone dealt with this company before? Good prices but want to be sure they are legit.

Anybody know where to get the BEST deal on a new XSi?

Thank you

I'll be the first to tell you, don't buy from anywhere but B&H, Adorama, Amazon or another MAJOR retailer. I will personally guarantee that any "Deal" you find online is a scam or bait and switch. Seriously...

ehh i havent done business with them, or heard of them. i think you might want to buy from a reputable dealer.

you can look this vendor up resellerratings.com i think thats how thats spelled.

BHphotovideo.com, beachcamera.com, canogacamera.com,newegg.com, frys.com, and even a few others are great vendors to buy through.. i have purchased a great deal from all of the vendors listed.

Figured since they were a sponsor on this forum they would have been researched.
I already looked on resellerratings.com and not there.

The ads at the top aren't sponsors. They're just who Google chooses based on site content, your web history, blood type and the color socks you're currently wearing. :)

I don't expect everyone to have my investigative talents or internet prowess so here's a couple of steps I took to teach you how you can protect yourself.

1. I've never heard of the store so I checked it out.
2. Made a few observations on the homepage. A Canon 70-200 2.8 IS selling for $1,199. How can a store sell for $400 less than wholesale? Smell of fish already.
3. www.resellerratings.com (external link) is your friend. But nothing comes up for jerseyshoredigital. Not even a negative.
4. When all else fails try "The Google". The second link comes up with this! (external link)
5. Final step is conclude that this place is a scam.
6. Purchase from one of those fine establishments mentioned above.

thanks for the replies..overclock...you rock

OK, of the reputable companies....which one has the best deal? Also, I know Canon is running an INSTANT rebate for $200 off the kit price... do I just call and ask if they honor the rebate?

:) Gotta do a LITTLE research on your own. Just go to the ones that Shannon and I mentioned (I'd just stick to Amazon, B&H and Adorama personally) and look up the camera. They'll say "Instant Rebate" or something.

We are glad to help out chriskat. I too was almost duped by broadwayphoto one day when researching video cameras. Then I decided to use google and see what I could find out. That was 7 years ago. I can't believe they're still around.

As for the best price, buydig.com has the body only for $599.

You already want a 100mm macro. What are you looking at for wide angle?

Also, what's your budget?

I would add, Abe's of Maine, Adorama and The Imaging World.

With Walmart you may pay taxes, but ultimately if you're comfortable with the purchase, and you can return it if you need to, it's worth the extra $10 or so for peace of mind.

Just curious, but have you considered a point and shoot such as the Canon G10 or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3? Much cheaper and great for macro work.

Hi all. I'm dave from the thoughts-of-dave.blogspot.com website, where I try and expose the bait and switch camera websites. All I can say is BEWARE. ONLY buy from the reputable dealers listed above, or retailers with positive reviews listed on www.resellerratings.com (external link) (be careful, however, as the unscrupulous dealers do post fake reviews). If the price is unbelievably low, there's a 99% chance that it's from a bait and swith website. Finally, you simply cannot make the assumption that a website is safe simply because it shows up as a sponsored link; these sites are enabled by Google, and Google refuses to stop them. I've emailed their execs, and even left voicemails...yet they continue to allow these websites to utilize the Adwords program.

Dave,

I just wanted to post my thanks for all the work you do in this respect, on behalf of everyone who would love to see the scumbag merchants who give the industry a bad name and customers a bad time, wiped off the face of the earth.

Helen

What state do you live in where the tax on almost $800 is just $10? I may be moving.
