Will be getting the 300mm F2.6 L ens shortly, (been saving very hard!!!) but the Drop in filter is confusing me.

What is a gel filter, is it something that is left over from the 35mm days.

If I buy a Drop in Filters holder :

can I buy the 52mm hoya ND and UV screw filder and screw to this holder?

Have been and bought one, for £85 it is worth keeping a couple in the camera bag, it will take the Hoya ND and UV screw in filters okay.
