the city erected a new memorial dedicated to veterans who fought in the wars. decided to go honor the veterans as well as take some pictures. lemme know what you think.

first two were taken with sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. the rest were shot with a sigma 10-20mm

In your first shot notice that the main subject has some very dark shadows on it. That suggests that either there had to be a better vantage point or a better time of day for the shoot. In other words, the lighting is working against you on that shot.

In #2 I think you have to crop to get the main subject isolated from all that unnecessary background, and there are too many highlight areas blown out.

In #3 the horizon seems to be dipping downwards at the left.

#4 looks like a lower vantage point would work better. Looking down on it gives a gives a tilted vertical.

#5 has a lighting problem, but I can't tell why. It looks, from the blown out sky and other blown out highlights, that the subject was probably too shadowed for this vantage point.

Sometimes it is necessary to take advantage of what the lighting gives you rather than what you thought you wanted. In other words, there must have been less desirable subjects that were well lighted from which you could get a more attractive picture.
