I've noticed that the access lamp that is located at about the 5 0'clock position next to the control dial on the back of a 40d and 50d acts different. When I load my cf card into my 40d (camera off)the access light will light up when I close the cf slot door. And on my 50d it won't light up until I turn the camera on. Any one notice this? It's not a big deal but was wondering because the 50d is new. I just want to make sure nothing is wrong with the new 50d.Or the 40d has been wrong since I got it. Or maybe it was a change Canon made to the 50d. Other than that the new 50d works great.

Thanks! So the 40d is good. Can anyone please check on a 50d for me?

Yes that is a change to the 50D. It also has changes as to when it quits writing to the card when the power is turned off, etc.

First thing I noticed when I changed from the 20D to 50D - The lamp acts differently on the 50D.

The little amber LED that's on when the camera is reading from or writing to (accessing) the memory card.

What's different with the 50D when it comes to writing to the card if you turn it off in the process?

As far as I know, the 1D Mark III (introduced early 2007) was the first DSLR from Canon that didn't just loose the images if you turned the power off or opened the card door while it was writing to the card.
