Ok, so I am getting out of my truck after a short am fishing trip with my daughter. I grab my new 1DsMark III with a 24-105 L IS and fire off a shot at the highway sign 84 yards down the road from my house.

Small white balance and auto curves adjustments only. No sharpening except what came out of ACR defaults. Full frame cropping power!

Next I am going to stand in the same place and shoot it with this beast and my 300mm f/2.8 IS and crop that at 100%. I will predict it will be an all green sign. NOTE: I was right see below.

Further NOTE: The first 3 pictures were taken late in the day, and the 2 with the 300 were taken in the morning.

100% Crop:

And just for fun a 200% uprez using Genuine Fractals:

WELL I JUST COULDN'T STAND IT SO I WENT OUT AND SHOT THE 1DsMarkIII with the 300 mm f/2.8 IS, same distance same sign, OMG -- it is totally sick

I like it alot. I am going to see what 300 and 400% look like on the originals and do a 200% on the 300 100% crop shot.

p51 thats a great shot. What ISO? I have the same set up with the 1DIII and a 500. No space shuttles around here to shoot, but lots of elk, dear, bears, birds, bikers, and turkeys, the real ones too!

Regarding my expectations, on the tests, I did have rather high ones after reading about how "cropable" the 1DsMarkIII is. I went from the II to the III. There is no comparison on the cropping power. But the reality never sets in until you get the results yourself. Thank goodness for "L" glass. The resolving power of this beast is truly outstanding. Can't wait to try it out on the 500 and 200 f/1.8.

On the Space Shuttle I think I shot it at something like App Priority; Shuitter was 1/640 or 1/800 and the ISO was 800 if I recall....... Tried to keep the ISO low to keep the grain out, shutter high enough that it wouldn't blurr and I figured I'd fix the exposure in PS later when I opened the RAW files......

The quality you can get out of these cameras is amazing.....

The cropping thing you are talking about has led me to a different shooting style in a way. I take a lot of wider shots and then crop the details I want..... Others are running around taking lots of shots of details and with the 1Ds Mark III, I can get it in a single shot. Of course the 1D MarkIII will shoot at a frame rate that is actually faster than I need for most stuff.......

Actually it's just a plug in for Photoshop which allows you to uprez your images. Supposedly it does it better than just doing it manually through PS.

I haven't used it, and was wondering if it really works.
