I have been reading a ton of posts and having some conversations on the board about RAW lately and I was wondering where most people (here) fit in (since I am 100% jpeg.) I am testing RAW for me, but unsure about switching (I mainly take candids of my family and don't print above 5X7.)

Anyway, wondering if I'll be an oddball here if I don't switch! :D

Heh! You might want to ask a mod to remove the multiple copies of your post or you'll get results scattered all over the place!

Thank you! I didn't realize those all posted! I was just trying to get the poll to work. I will see if they can remove the others.

RAW only 100%, and never looked back... it's like added insurance... Enables substantial changes to the exposure... and it's just an extra step in processing... Though it does require a larger memory card for lots of shots.

I now shoot raw 100% of the time. If Im its something that I need a quick shot of I use the SX1100IS for my jpgs. Now RAW, sRAW1 and sRAW2 would be a more interesting poll ;)

I shoot raw nearly exclusively except when shooting sports. So, most of my files are then JPGs, but that only accounts for one thing I shoot.

Or you could use the search system to find one of the other dozen polls people have done.

Dude, what we're shooting shouldn't matter to you. If you're shooting jpeg and are happy with that, what's the problem? This jpeg/raw thing is like a religion. Some still shoot FILM! I chose raw long ago because I like to tweak things just so. If I were a pro shooting several thousand shots a week, I'm sure my choice would be different. Yours should be too.

JPG -- every few months go by and I'll shoot a few hundred in RAW. Found it just doesn't make that much of a difference for me. THis is a RAW forum so you will most likely not get many that shoot JPG.

But if you believe everything you read hear ....
1. You'll only shoot raw
2. You'll make a JPG and DNG backup
3. You will process every image with DPP, Lightroom and then Photoshop (Both Legal and Illegal Copies)

And, when it is all said and done, you'll have the finest workflow that pro's will envy, except you'll never output any files to the web or print.

I know - I know it's a hobby ......Like Bodog said, if you are happy with your results it doesn't matter. I shoot Jpg and use only DPP and Picasa with a little GIMP thrown in for selective coloring or B&W. Folks at work are amazed at the images on my digital frame in my office. Enough to get me 1/2 a dozen gigs a year, including a wedding dress reshoot where the pro charged $500 a 4x6 for snapshot quality.

But then again I've been shooting seriously since about 1975.

I shoot mostly in RAW, but that is just me. I like the extra control over the image it gives. I rarely use DPP anymore for processing, I choose to use Bridge to PS for processing.

Well, the last poll I saw in the search was in 2006 and a lot of new people have come to the boards since then. Also, ideas about jpeg vs. RAW have changed over time.

There are a few reasons I am interested in knowing what others do. If, for example, most of the members here use RAW and I don't, that might affect my participation in some threads. Also, I will feel more compelled to look into RAW if it is overwhelmingly popular because it is not something I've heard much about outside this board. But you are right -- ultimately, I will shoot with what works best for ME.

Well, I am a relative newcomer here and I have just recently begun to realize that. I just wanted a little more confirmation. ;)
