Adorama 40D Pricing

I have been searching for a 40D lately and have been watching prices go up and down. Adorama had a 40D refurbished for $749.99 up until just a few days ago. I don't see that deal anymore, however, they now have a 40D recertified for $734.99.

The question is: What's the difference between refurbished and recertified?

I would be guessing but I think refurb means they corrected a problem and recertified means they checked out a return and nothing was wrong with it.. Either done by Canon. It's a big guess though and they may be playing symantecs with you. Either way I wouldn't worry as long as there is a warranty.

It might say "recertified" in the add/listing (well I know it dose), so did my "recertified" 30D, but on the box, camera and lens all said refurbished. So with that said, I am not sure if you can take the word "recertified" that is in the listing as full "truth"... me I think they are the same, just recertified could look/sound better.

By the way, all was well with my 30D, I will be ordering a 40D kit "recertified" in a about 2/3 weeks, that is if the price dosen't go up again, if it dose then i will have to look elsewhere then Adorama or somehow ask for a discount back to where it was... The price jumps are getting silly, new stuff, ok I guess, but not on refurbs.

It appears from this thread that "recertified" means the same thing as "refurbished", but Adorama had to change terminology to address manufacturer concerns.

'Recertified' sounds so much better than 'refurbished'.

Just like with cars. You never buy a 'used' car. But you will buy a 'recertified' vehicle.

They are going for $729.95 now. That is such a good price.

I agree. I actually like recertified better. Not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things

Not bad. It was $699 awhile ago, but I doubt it'll get back to that price barring a 50D Mk II or a 60D announcement.

Like when you sell a house.

Realtors always refer to the domicile as a house when dealing with the seller. But the realtor will always refer to the same domicile as a home when dealing with the prospective buyer. The emotional (de)attachment of home and house.
