Lately I've been noticing pigeons. I've been watching them closely, and I've realized they lead a sad depressing life. I feel bad for them, they seem so sad. I don't blame them, most people shoo them away like flies, but they don't realize the deep trauma they are causing to these little guys.

This poor bird finds its only source of water from a dirty drain next to a rustic gas pump leaking unleaded gas. I think there was also a heroin needle sitting a few feet away.

This bird, which may possibly be the same depressing pigeon, was in the middle of contemplating suicide off the Newport Beach Pier today. I slowly walked up to it, threw it a few crumbs of my left-over club sandwhich and talked him through his troubled times. I knew he was listening becuase he would do that head cocking thing that they do when they are trying hard to listen to what you have to say. Soon after her flew away. I'm glad I could have a positive impact on his life.

These aren't the only sad occurances I've seen lately. I recently saw a pigeon being wacked by an old lady with her Prada purse as he was trying to sit on her shoulder. How rude. Kids like to torture them too.

Just keep in mind, pigeons have it rough--be kind, feed them your sandwhich.;)

A true philanthropist..... I will never call them Flying Rats ever again. Gerbils, maybe... :D

Great shots. What are the chances of catching the drinking pigeon doing that?

I love pigeons! Nice pics. (Um, have you ever heard of projecting? It's something the pigeon might ask her shrink about.)

Your photos are very good! That drinking pigeon is a rare one. and the 2nd shoot has great color and I like the composition.
I used to feed pigeons when I was litle with my aunt. She always had some bread for then every afternoon.
I remember they gathered for the snack always at the same time, and I also remember they kept going there at the same hour for a month, when she passed away.

It's a pitty they carry so many illness that can afect us.
But still I wouldn't ever do harm to any of them (or any animal).

Great that you caught such great images of the litle guy and were able to communicate, but I would advise not to touch them, as though as it might seem.

Cheers,
Jaime

What are the chances of finding a leaking gas can at today's prices. And in California no less. Sorry, they are still Winged Rats. Pretty, but Winged Rats. Hawks consider them a delicacy. The pictures are OK but there is a harsh shadow on the one contmplating suicide, perhaps an omen? The one drinking from the faucet is neat. Perhaps the next time you communicate with one you could ask about the mess they leave on everything?

But hey, I guess that's their job in life. Live and let live.

The first picture is great!

I shooed a pigeon away a few days ago. The stupid thing was drinking from a puddle of antifreeze left by a leaky car in a parking structure. Damn bird is probably dead by now...

That first shot is superb. Whats are the chances of seeing that, and when you have your camera with you! Have you ever been to Trafalgar Square (London)? They have vultures there to scare them away. I have no problems with them, they are more amusing than a lot of birds!

haha, yea I was surprised--but then again, now adays i always have my camera with me. Unfortunately I've never been to Trafalgar Square--although it sounds amazing. it also reminds me of the word "truffle" which is good. Cuz I like truffles. These so-called vultures sound like them could make some very interesting pictures. Please do, take!

I'd love to take and share some pics, but I live in China now and am not planning a trip home til next year.....If you can wait.......?

With the number of tourists in London there must be thousands of shots of the vultures floating about. Maybe someone else here has some??

Now sure of the connection with 'truffle', but hey, we all like truffles!!
