Shallowest Sharpest lens

I'm looking for the Shallowest sharpest lens at what f number, you have ever used excluding the tanks 300 400mm stuff.

I know the 85 1.2 and 135L are some of the favorites but I really want something like a 50mm or even wider.

The 50mm f/1.4 is no slouch really...

Maybe you should delve into the world of adapted manual focus glass?

I find it a little soft at 1.4

Canon 50 1.2L, Zeiss Planar T 50 f/1.4, and if you have VERY DEEP pockets - Contax 60th Anniversary 50mm f/1.2

The Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.7, Contax/Yashica mount adapted to EOS, is definitely the sharpest lens I've used. Judging from various benchmark tests of that lens, I'd say that many people agree that it is indeed tack sharp. never tried it, but compare a 200 f1.8 to some of the above suggestions in a calculator. I'm sure it would impress

The new sigma 50mm 1.4 is excelllent in many reviews and tests. there are many people that love the 24L and the 35L.. The lenses are out there, it is just a matter of money.

135L is one my shallowest on the 5D. 35L is another strong contender.

People have posted lenses but no F#'s....

In the "bargain" section, I found the Sigma 30/1.4 to be an excellent lens, even if it were at Canon pricing. Maybe I had an extra good copy, I don't know, but mine was sharp as anything else I've owned.

I love my 35L, even wide open at 1.4 it's very sharp with a very shallow DOF

Any common 300mm f/8 lens...


...on an 8x10 camera...


...making a full-face portrait, which is very nearly in the macro range on such a camera.

Sigma 50/1.4

If you have a sharp copy, its on par w/ the 50L. I absolutely love mine.
