There's a banner at checkout at B&H; how does this work? Is there anything I should worry about? How do you get the $25 off? It does not appear on my final price as an instant discount.

Bill Me Later answerd most of my questions (I just realized I had to click their graphic for details, see below)

Now my question is -- will this impact my credit score in any way by applying for this?

Steve,
It does impact your credit score. I have spoken with their CSR and they told me that they do a hard check on your credit the first time you apply for it. It's not worth saving $25 if you are planning to get a loan anytime soon.

However, score does go back up?

I purchased a lens once using it... and a camera body once using it.. I don't think it affected my credit score at all.... if it did it was minimal enough not to notice....

Cool deal, I ended up using Bill Me Later at checkout. Retailers like it because it charges them 1.5% rather than a 2-3% fee. I like it because I just saved $25! I unchecked the "pay in 90 days" option so I can get the bill paid before I forget.

By the way, I tried to upgrade shipping to 2-day after placing the order by calling the CSR at B&H. Apparently that cannot be done once Bill Me Later is used. The CSR was nice enough to try to combine this order with another one I placed yesterday that had not yet been shipped, but folks should be aware of this when making purchases with Bill Me Later.

How would it affect your credit score any differntly than any other loan you receive would affect your score. Credit scores are based (I think) on the amount of debt that you are carrying. So if you are in debt up to your eyeballs and go buy a 1D with a mega lens, perhaps it will affect your score.

I think I read that any "hard check" of your credit deducts 5 points from your total score temporarily.

I have purchased most of my gear with BML.. I t has not affected my credit score. However, do not put off paying your bill or you will see a 20% or more finance charge that is retroactive. I always pay off my bill at least 1 month or more before it is due.

Its not going to affect your score if you have good credit or if you haven't opened too many cards in the recent past. If you have opened too many cards recently then its going to affect your score.

Thanks for the help. Advice well taken--hopefully I'll stop ordering stuff from B&H so I won't have to take out a loan to eat!
