Hi people,

my next lens purchase will be some kind of tele lens. I think most things point towards the 100mm f2. I'm a huge prime fan and I think it would accompany the 50 1.4 nicely.

However, I could also get the 70-200 4. I wonder though: how is the object isolation @ f4? Because that is one of the big reasons why I like to use primes, apart from everything else.

there are several factors that will affect DOF. the first being your camera (FF or crop?). others are, aperture, focal length, distance from subject, subject distance from background etc......

here are a couple @ 200mm, wide open shot with 1.3 crop........

Like Ed said.

You'd be surprised at what results you can get if you just bear the various factors in mind.

At the same time, a good wide prime can get incredible results if you know how to handle wide apertures. But get the lens that will meet your needs.

Here is a shot I took with the 100-400 and a 1.4x TC at f/11:

Here are a couple of shots on a 1.6 crop body... Both at 200mm f/4, and both uncropped. ;)

Edit* BTW these are the IS version of the 70-200 f4 ;)
