Yes, the softbox kit is sitting here in my office still in the box. The TT1 and TT5's are sitting in a Pelican case but are as yet untested. I need you guys to come and make sure everything works, sigh.

You are one patient man Dwight, I could never wait that long to play with some new gear.

Not patience ... I don't have time! You should come up early and help me unpack and test ... maybe Friday evening? :-)

I would be interested in the drive up from Los Angeles as I have never attended a POTN event. Would someone new feel out of place amongst the regulars?

How long does it last usually? Is actual photography part of the day? What do I need to bring?

Also, I'm a strictly glamour photographer, but would be willing to shoot landscapes or hummingbirds or whatever.

Sorry for all the questions. I just couldn't wade through all the posts.

No need to wade through posts! :-) You would be more than welcome. This is in no way an "insiders" event. You will fit right in so don't give that a second thought ... after all, I fit in, sorta'. And this is not a 'Jam' or other primarily shooting gathering ... is it social ... it's just that lots of shooting takes place within the confines of my little yard/house. There will be some who will spend the morning running around shooting the valley or visiting Santa Barbara and you will be welcome to connect up with them. It is likely that as we get closer some will announce plans and invite others to join. We are all friends, even if we haven't met yet!

The BBQ proper will start around noon or early afternoon. It will last until the last man standing gets in their car ... maybe 9:00 pm, maybe midnight. You will be expected to stay only so long as you are having fun ... really, you can come, have a bite and a drink and leave immediately or stay until we're all exhausted.

I am overjoyed to hear you are a glamor guy! You can help with the models and Strobist demo. You do not need to shoot a frame of landscape or hummingbird! :-)

No more so than I was last year. It was my first time at Dwight's.

=]How long does it last usually?

It lasts from whenever you get there, until you decide you need to leave. ;)
Last years event went from around 1pm until around dusk IIRC.
But that doesn't mean you have to stay the whole time. You are not trapped, and are free to leave at any time you feel the need.

=] Is actual photography part of the day?

Again, last year we did a little impromptu lesson on lighting that was given by a friend/associate of Dwight's and also a Brooks Graduate. It was pretty cool.
This year there is talk of checking out the new Pocket Wizards, and doing a Strobist style lighting tutorial.

=]What do I need to bring?

Bring whatever your want/need/can. We all are also bringing something in the line of a pot luck.

Perhaps someone could make up a running list of what's being brought?

=]Also, I'm a strictly glamour photographer, but would be willing to shoot landscapes or hummingbirds or whatever.

Again, IIRC, didn't Dwight said something about having two models set up for this weekend? So the Glamour photography might come in handy.
Dwight dabbles in Glamour and in Event Photography if you haven't had the chance to check out his site.

=]Sorry for all the questions. I just couldn't wade through all the posts.

No problem. These threads can get rather long. :p
Hope to meet you there.

Edit: It looks like I was typing and editing at about the same time as Dwight was posting HIS reply.

Killjoy, could you make a running list of what everyone is bringing? :-)

Edit: No good turn goes unpunished!

Thank you, Dwight, for the kind welcome. Based on what you are telling me, I would definitely like to attend. It sounds like an excellent way to meet new people and talk about the great passion of my life: glamour photography.

D'oh! I somehow knew that was going to bite me in the rear.

Sure, I'll start it. Then as people add things, copy the list and add your name, and if/what you are bringing.

Dwight, Marna and Anna: "I expect we will BBQ tri-tip."
Alan (aka Killjoy) Sara and Rachel: Homemade Macaroni Salad and some wine.
Skip: "Grape Squeezins" plus whatever Maureen tells him to bring.
Maureen: "I will bring desserts and maybe my famous potato salad again."
bjordan: Cornbread and Beer.
Sevan (S.E.V) and Karyn (scrapgirl): "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............."
Kevin: "I will bring my 12 favorite Firestone friends and a salad thingy."

Okay folks, seeing as you said you are bringing something, and we are starting a list, I guess it's not too early to start a roll call.
After all it IS only 50 days away from today.;)

So, copy that section, paste it in, and add your name.
Sevan, feel free to edit what you said you are going to bring. :p
