I have a problem.
I don't know what to do.

I have my 40D with grip listed on a Belgium forum for sale, just to see what price I get from it. Now, I get a good price from it, actually very good. And now I'm doubting if I should pull the trigger to sell it and buy with that money (ans some extra money :-)) the 5D mark 2...

It is alot of money for me, but I would like it, but I'm happy with what I have, but I want more :-). I'm really fustrating! I lay awake all night long to decide what I should do, and I don't know yet...

What do you guys think I should do. Do you think my lens-lineup is good enough for the FF-expirience?

I have the same dilemma - although admittedly I don't stay awake all night thinking about it!

The dilemma for me is whether to get a 5D mark 1 or mark 2. The mark 2 is twice the price, so is it really worth it? I currently have a 20D!

most members would probably tell you to spend the $$$ on lenses or more gear like flash, bags, etc.

i say if the means are there...go ahead and do it...theres quite a difference from a 40d to a 5d2, i know ive shot both, just the better ISO and HD video capabilites are already worth it IMHO now add the FF, the bigger and better screen, and other small features and it becomes a NO brainer

i mean u spent all this money on lenses, you might as well get a body that can fully exploit their potential

my .02

edit: after looking at your gear list, you can sell that 11-16 to help the cost, you wont be needing it if you go FF

Kandy said it and I'll say the same thing. The 5D2 is satisfying the things I was missing or wishing for in previous cameras that I still have, not the least of which are the LCD display, new menu system and micro adjustment. You will find that the 5D2 isn't simply an improvement on your 40D, as good as it is, it is entering a new world. There are times for lenses and times for new bodies, and it sounds like it's time for a new body for you, and it will also be a rebirth for the lenses you have as well.

In a year, if you buy, the 5D, you will be wishing you bought a 5DII ?

If you buy the 5DII, in a year you will be wishing for it's replacement or a 1dsMLIII. I don't see much different in the "wish" department.

You really don't have much in the way of lenses, imo. If you must satisfy the urge for a new body, get the 50D or 5D and more glass or keep the 40D and buy the 5D.

Seeing as only 2 out of your 3 lenses will even work with a FF body, I would say no. Personally I would build up my lens lineup a bit before spending so much on a body, but if you're OK with the 2 lenses you have, then go for it.

I can use all of my lenses FF, the Tokina only from 14-16mm but it works.

I was thinking that to. But I would never buy a 1series body, it's just to expensive and over my needs. and the 5D2 upgrade was 3 years from the introducton of the 5D. So I could do 3 years with that 5D2 before there was a upgrade.

You can buy a used 1dsMKII for the price of a 5DII or less so it's not too expensive.

I doubt the 5dII replacement is going to take anywhere near as long as the 5D replacement took. Nikon has come to the plate and directly competes with Canon on full frame now.

You won't want to bother with the Tokina for only 2mm of zoom. Afterall, the 14mm translates to (14*1.6) 22.4mm which you practically have with the 24-105. 24mm is wide on a FF body when compared to a crop body. Totally different.

Make sure you like FF before diving head first into it. Is there a place you can rent a 5D or 5DII or maybe borrow one from a really nice friend? If you're happy with the price you got for your 40D then sell it. But there are many avenues open to you at this point in life.

Yeah but, 14mm on a FF body will be much wider than 24mm.

Ok, but I still stand behind my comments. If it were me I would worry more about lenses before investing so heavily into a body. I would likely sell the 40D, pick up a 5D classic and build up my lenses.

However, if the lenses you own fit your needs, then go for the body. Only you can answer that, though. If your question is simply whether or not your lenses are "good enough" for a 5D MKII, then for me the answer is yes in regards to the 24-105 and the 50 f/1.4, and it would be a maybe for me on the 11-16.

Depends what you want. Do you want landscapes on the FF format? Do you want 21MB pictures that you can crop and still print to large sizes? Do you want the advantage of video from a DSLR? If the answers are yes, I think the 5D2 is the way to go.
