Necessary? NO.
Highly Recommended? Absolutely. I love the 5D2 over the 40D.

I just upgraded to the 5DII. I am torn when shooting wildlife. The 40D has produced many wonderful shots, but the detail from the 5dII is, well, wow! Here is a shot from the other night with 70-200 f/2.8 and 580 flash. ISO 800 at f/3.2 1/3200. Very clean...

In a month, maybe. Will be replacing it with a 5DII, or keeping it and buying a 7D.

Haven't decided. At some point I will probably have both a 5dII and a 7D, depending how real world results pan out with the 7D.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I have a problem.
I don't know what to do.

I have my 40D with grip listed on a Belgium forum for sale, just to see what price I get from it. Now, I get a good price from it, actually very good. And now I'm doubting if I should pull the trigger to sell it and buy with that money (ans some extra money :-)) the 5D mark 2...

It is alot of money for me, but I would like it, but I'm happy with what I have, but I want more :-). I'm really fustrating! I lay awake all night long to decide what I should do, and I don't know yet...

What do you guys think I should do. Do you think my lens-lineup is good enough for the FF-expirience?

If you're happy with what you have, why fret? Are you a photographer or a gadget hound? Has your photography outgrown your equipment?

If you're truly a gearhead who lusts after the latest and greatest, then give in to the Dark Side and buy the 5D Mk II. But if you're serious about photography, then stick with what you've got and master the equipment that you have. You already have a fine setup.

I bought a 40D in February and I don't expect to upgrade for another couple of years (I have my eye on the 7D). Be patient...

I also went from 40D to 5D2

Best parts of 5D2 over 40D:
1. AF Microadjust
2. Improved LCD/High Res Image Review Thumbnails
3. Full Frame
