Hi guys,

Just returned from a quick trip to HKG, and took these while walking on the Wan Chai promenade. Think some sort of Heron, but not sure, may be a juvy.

Taken with 50D and 100-400mm L.

Chris.

I would suggest a juvenile black crowned night heron. Cool shots and nice commentary!

Thanks,

I have no idea about a lot of the birds I shoot, but never let it stop me. I know there will always be someone on here who can tell me who it is :-)
There were also what appeared to be red kites, but just too far off for 400mm, so no shots of them.

Sheryl is right in this ID. It's a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron. Good set.

Black crowned night heron in his teenage phase...not quite juvenile and not quite adult. DO NOT let him have the keys to the car.

Nice set of pics.

The white bird in the last three shots is a Little Egret. The others are, as said, a sub-adult Black-crowned Night Heron.

Picture editing is OK. CC always welcome.

Thanks alot guys. Nice to get ID's confirmed. Also nice to see others appreciate the pics, so I must be learning something :-)
But I wouldn't suggest flying to HKG for the day just to shoot the birds :-)
