Not too big-a-problem but Windows wont recognise my CF cards when i re-insert them into my CF-Reader!
Boot with one in and its fine, disconnect and then re-connect the Reader and it'll work but take a card out, wait a few seconds and then re-insert is met with Removable Disk icon in Explorer!

Anybody had a similar problem or got a fix? I've tried the latest drivers but they don't help

System Specs:

WinXP Pro
Athlon XP2000+
512MB
Gigabyte 7vrxp Mb
Asus GF4Ti 4200
Canon Ixus V3
Dane-Elec zMate CF card Reader/Writer USB

cheers in advance

Trix,
Basically have the same system you do, except XP Home, and have had no probs.

Stupid question but I have to ask. Are you plugging in your CF reader (USB) with your PC "ON"?
I'm sure you are but like I said, have to ask.

Also, if you open "my computer" when you insert a CF card into your reader when this problem is occuring, is the drive there?
I occasionally have a problem with a "disappearing zip drive", have to re-boot and everything is fine.

Have you tried uninstalling your reader then installing it again?

JM2C's worth. Good luck. :)

Cheers for the reply m8.
If i stick a card in the drive, turn on and boot into windows the drive will recognise the card and work fine.

likewise If I start Windows afresh, insert a card for the first time then it will be recognised properly

The problem only occurs when I take a card out (whilst in Windows) and then re-insert it or another card! The drive is still recongnised as "Drive F: Removable Drive", but the card won't register.

Its a funny problem because to fix it (whilst still in Windows) I can disconnect the drive Reader from it cable, reconnect it a few seconds later and hey-presto Windows will read the card in the drive. Crazy!

That would make me believe that it is the card reader that is the problem. Have you tried any other card readers?

Havent had chance to do so yet. I was thinking of trying some other Driver software with it. At the mo there's no difference whether i use the generic XP drivers or the drivers which come on the install cd.

You shouldn't need to install any drivers. The built-in drivers should suffice.

You might want to try a different brand of CF reader, and see if that works. Or try out that CF reader on a different PC. That would definitely tell you where the problem lies.
