gorillapod focus

Has anyone used one?? if so what do you think? I am looking at buying one as an alternative to tripod for when I go on holiday.

Just bought one for my Africa trip but not really had a chance to play with it. I added a Kirk QR platform as my camera already has a plate that fits it. Far too flimsy for the 50D with the 300 2.8 but works OK with the 10-22. As it's going to be used for taking night shots that should be fine.

With normal lenses it's actually very good.
I use it to put it on a table or chair.
I never tried to wrap it around a pole, but it must be do-able!

I thought it would be a great idea. Haven't really used it in the 2 years I've owned it.

I bought a back packing tripod and that gets plenty of use.

I love mine! great when you cant/wont lug a real tripod around. stuck it to a few poles and worked well!

I'm not sure if it's the Focus that I have but it's their latest heaviest one and I have an old Leica ball head on it and it's pretty neat. I loaded it down with a reasonably heavy setup and it still did the job.

I have the Gorillapod SLR-ZOOM (http://joby.com/produc​ts/gorillapod/slrzoom/) and it works well. I wouldn't wrap it around a pole or branch with my 70-200 attached, but it is a great alternative when I don't want to bring my tripod on trips.

Going to Croatia in July and I know I will need a tripod of some descrition for sunsets and they have some great waterfalls
