No problem!

Yeah, the whole point is that you attach the lens (using the adapter) to the tripod not the camera. You get the parallax problems if you keep the camera fixed and move the lens, as when you shift not only are you changing the direction the lens is looking in (if you know what I mean), but also the point it is looking from.

When you keep the lens fixed but move the camera, you are changing where the lens is looking, but not the point it is looking from. Therefore foreground and background objects do not appear to move in relation to each other, and the images can still be stitched together.

Without using the adapter, in practice I found in most shots the parallax was so slight (due to all objects being a similar distance from the camera) it didn't affect the overall image unless you zoomed in to 100%.

It was only when I took a panorama with some objects close to the camera and others far away that it was impossible to stitch the images together.

I haven't used the filter kit so can't help with that. Here's a pic of the adaptor in use if it helps. It's got 2 blocks that you mount the tripod quick release plates onto can be removed.

@jack880

What is the company / name of that adapter?

I've thrown out many a potential shift pano of, say a motorcycle or car close to the lens that became so warped it looked unreal.

Does the adapter leave any marks or damage on the lens?

X2
It seems like there will be a lot of stress on the lens. The Hartblei collar attaches near the mount but it's quite pricey.

I haven't actually taken it off since I put it on but I don't think it's marked it. I asked the guy who sells them about marking the lens before I bought it and his response was:

"I removed all sharp corner and polished them. The lens is painted with a hard colour. I made during the developing of the adapter with a early version of the adapter a small scratch on my lens. But its never happened with the final version of the adapter. In general you will mount it ones than there is no reason to remove it.

The body cant not scratched then it is to far away from the body.

I recommend to remove the camera completely from the tripod during the transport. Ore the lens tilt and shift system will faster wear out"

His email address is TSE@gonjoo.com (external link) and his name is Daniel Solari. Was a good guy to deal with.

^^

Thanks jack! Appreciate that info. I'll check it out.

Agreed on not transporting on the tripod; I tend to store all my gear in a backpack and/or camera bag even between short trips and, for the TS-E 17, I put it back into zero positions and lock both mechanisms. With the Fotodiox kit I have, it's heavy, and if the lens isn't locked, it will freely weigh down the lens movements which I always worry will damage them. So far so good.

No problem mate.

I keep the adaptor on the lens all the time, but only mount the adaptor on the tripod if I need to use it for stitched shifted shots. Otherwise just mount the camera on the tripod as normal. I never carry the tripod around with the adaptor mounted on it.
