rebates I guess are one of those things that happen in the US of A?

I'll be real interested to hear how you compare and relatively rate these over time. I had considered dropping the 24 and my 17-40 for the 17 at one point....

The rebates are going on right now. Canon has a double rebate offer going on if you buy more than one item with a camera body. It's automatically discounted at the time of purchase. Or you can just buy the item alone with little discount.

As for my own testing, I'll be sure to post my results down the road. :)

After hearing what these lenses were all about I had to get one. I think the control over the focal plane is just pure awesomeness. I decided on the 24L II for a few reasons. I shoot most landscape at that focal length, I did not have a 24mm prime and this one is sharper than the EF 24L prime (from what I have read), and given the recent overhaul from Canon for the new controls are great. The older models seem very limited compared to the new 17 and 24mm T&S lenses.

I hear people saying T&S is tacky and should die. I think they are narrow minded.

I cannot wait to get out and see what this baby can do.

I was thinking of going DIY or using enlarging lenses to get some other focal length in T&S. I'm looking at a few options at the moment. EDIT: Hmm, maybe they are not called enlarging lenses. Perhaps medium format lenses. Anyways, the info is out there.

I take it for the "narrow minded" part of my comment.

I must say I really like this lens. I was just out on a walk in the park. I could never do those park shots with the trail leading into the picture. But with the T&S I can now just focus on the path. Makes a HUGE difference in the final presentation. I much more prefer the T&S image to the other image.

I'll post some pics later tonight. I am heading out again. Keep in mind I have now had the lens for about 5 hours with only about 1 hour of play time. :D

Here we go:

Still finding it a little hard seeing the focus. I had to retake this one a few times. Hand held of course. I hate carrying a tripod. :D

I love how sharp this lens is. It can focus really close. I don't think I even need an extension tube. I do find the knobs a little small. I cannot replace the shift knob because the screw is in pretty tight and I do not want to strip the head in an attempt to get it out. And the shift release lever can get into some tight spots. Too tight for my fingers.

I'm always sad that there are so few pictures from T&S lenses :/

I have noticed that too. An expensive specialty lens that most sane people would not buy. Great for me that sanity is a only state of mind. And I threw that out a long time ago. WEEEEEEEEEWOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Here's an image taken a couple of weeks ago after fresh snow at about 8.30pm; its a couple of 15 second 1600ISO exposures on the 5Dmk2....

How did you stack the separate exposures?

^That makes two of us--"should" being the operative word. Hopefully, we all can add a lot more shots to this thread.

Thanks. I've been following the 17 TSE thread, and you have some great images there.

Thanks!

Though I'm a bit surprised why you chose the 24mm over the 17?

What was your rationale in that decision?

When I was deliberating, I looked at the EXIF in a lot of my images and, surprisingly, found that I was around 20-26mm a lot of the time. Based on that and the fact that I can use my 17-40 if I need to go ultra-wide, I opted for the 24mm. Both tilt-shifts are obviously sensational, and I'd love to own the 17mm at some point.

That's great news Kevin. I'm a fan of your work and a fan of this lens, so I'm really looking forward to seeing some goodness posted up soon.

Love the way this lens can drop focus wherever you want it - couple of different perspectives on an old convict built mill with Jacaranda tree in bloom.
