You're not missing much with the MK II. :)

I'd agree with that, being a happy mk I owner, myself. Weather sealing and a bit better corner sharpness is all the extra $600 gets you.

Cheers!

That makes me feel a lot better. The mkII had just come out when I bought the mkI, I think the $ difference was about $400.

With some shifting, the detail this lens captures is amazing.

Do any of you lucky owners of this fine piece of photographic glass ever use filters with it?

If so, which ones?

Thx in advance.

I use CPLs, GNDs, and NDs. Take your pick. :)

Thanks Julian.:)

Just curious since I'll most likely be getting either the 1D Mk III, or 1D Mk IV (probably the Mk III due to financial restraints), so I'm having a hard time deciding between the 24mm or 17 mm TS-E lenses.

I like the fact that you can use filters with the 24mm, but the approx 31mm FOV that the 1.3x crop sensor gives is not really all that wide, compared to the approx 22mm FOV that the 17mm gives.

Of course I could always use the shift feature to take multiple images of the subject, and "stitch" or "merge" them together in Photoshop, so the FOV may just be a moot point.

Not sure however if I use a filter, or filters on the 24mm, and do multiple images, if the filtered areas of all the images would align properly in the finished "merged" photo.

The 24mm would be nice as it does allow the use of filters.

The 17mm would be nice as it allows a wider FOV just in case I want to just take the photo in just one frame. (Without having to stitch/merge multiple frames).

Yes I know...get them both, would love to, but I'm trying to decide which ONE would serve me best overall if I had to choose one, because there are a few other lenses I would also like to get before I double up on the WA TS-E's.

Maybe I'm putting too much thought into this.

You are and you have every right to. ;) Anyways, I guess you can do panos for as long as you own a 1.3 crop.

Thanks, ;)

And yeah I guess panos might be the best solution.

While 31mm isn't all that wide, it most likely is wide enough for SOME subjects.

Would be an awesome lens though to photograph Snow Ghosts. (Amongst other subjects) Keeping them nice and straight, and razor sharp. A CPL would also help enhance a deep blue sky making the snow stand out even more.

Would also make them look incredible converted to B&W...and then printed onto Metallic paper as a wise P.O.T.N. photographer recently suggested.

31mm FOV is wide but not wide enough for most things. Go FF and be happy. ;)

 LOVE IT!! Was wondering when this topic was going to come up. ;)

I wonder when or if Canon will ever make a FF digital SLR that shoots close to 10 FPS as their FULL FRAME EOS 1VHS (or 1V + PB-E2 Power Booster) cameras did?

Do you really need speed?

Would be nice to have if photographing a cheetah running at full speed, or an eagle swooping down from the sky and snatching a salmon out of the water in one fast swoosh etc.

Not saying it must be used all the time of course, but it would be nice to have just in case.

But I am still thinking about the 1Ds Mk III.

If my camera purchasing budget is approx $2,000 well then it will be the 1D Mk III.

If however I can somehow scrape up $4500 or so...then it gets to be a little tougher decision. (As I've previously mentioned.)

Anyway, thanks again for all your help and suggestions, Julian. Very much appreciated. :)

No problem. After using both the 1Ds III and 1D III, I figured out that I really don't need ISO and FPS. If was shooting birds and things that move, I most certainly would have the required gear. So, I got rid of the 1D III and kept the 1Ds III. I even tried the 7D and didn't need to FPS. So, I wound up with a Leica M9. Anyways, if you ever need help, hit me up with a PM. :)

Back to posting photos with this great lens! :)
