Using my 40d with a hand strap on friday Iwent to shoot a shot vertical as I have done zillions of time before and my 20-35L fell off ahhh! bounced on the table (I had left the hood mounted on the lens as I was shooting inside) over the top of a plate of chinese
just touched the rim of the table and wedged between two chairs my wife handed it back
picked it up before it fell any further, the noise was eneogh to bring the place to a stop and after my jaw went back into place ,the question what caused the lens to come of
I knew it was me but how well the 20-35 is pretty short and I was changing the focal length to 35 and had rested my hand against the release knob and simply released the lens and the heavy little lens went for a fall.
result no damage at all checked for food on the lens, took several shots with the lens zoomed to 20 and 35 and pinsharp shots.
Won,t lean on the release again thats for sure would not want my 200MKII L TO DO THE SAME thats for sure.

your post gave me a headache because there are no punctuation marks in the right places and everything seems like it's just a long train of thought with
random
spaces
here and there

Lucky for you, though, that you didn't break anything.

Like poetry, eh?

Part of the reason why those are designated L lenses is because they're made not to break. Sure, a direct hit to the glass will probably still kill it, but the lens barrel is reinforced and sealed and whutnot to take rock slides or falls from glaciers or...tables.

If you speak English, especially natively, and have even the most basic understanding of how to form sentences and paragraphs, why on earth would you choose not to use that knowledge when writing on a forum? It is after all here that the written word is your sole method of being understood (apart from pictures of course which are worth a thousand words).

Happy to hear that your lens is okay though. A lucky break for sure.

Yes, a particularly annoying and pointless affectation.

You know what I like to do? Use 4 dots and a comma....,just because. Try it....,it's fun!

If English isn't your native language then I suggest a little more practice with simple grammar and spelling rules. If English is your native language and you have a mangled hand (resulting in odd punctuation and spacing because you have nubs for fingers) then you get a free pass. If English is your native language and your hands aren't mangled then WTF?

Do the lenses on the 40D release straight off? On the XTi I have, the lens must be rotated about 50-60 degrees after the release is made.
