Canon EF 35mm/f2, how good for Portraits?

I primarily use Canon 50mm and 85mm for Portraits. But they are too long for a small group in a living room. My Canon 20mm is too wide with pronounced wide-angle perspective for any family portrait.

I have zeroed in on Canon 35mm f2. The reviews are very positive about this lens, very little perspective distortion, very sharp and contrasty. Does anyone use this lens for group family Portrait?
