So i was shooting some photos and video today just fine. Came home and was going to take some pictures of some birds outside but when i looked through my viewfinder i noticed an obstruction. when i popped the lens off the little piece shown below had fallen out. i tried to figure out how it went back in but it wont stay. there werent any screws that fell out when i removed the lens (are there supposed to be?), and i cant get it to just snap back in. can someone help me with this. i really dont want to have to send it in.

How it should look:

UPDATE:

Got the camera back today and it is working like new. Canon did the following:

-Replaced the part that fell out
-Replaced the lens pin contacts
-Replaced the plactic piece around the lens pin contacts
-Replaced the focusing screen
-Cleaned the sensor
-Updated the firmware

I was a bit frustrated that i had to argue with them a bit to get it fixed, but they have changed their records to make me the original owner since i am the one who registered the camera so i dont have any future problems. They also gave me a $100 voucher good towards any repair after the warranty runs out. All in all, I am happy with the outcome and am glad they did, in my opinion, the right thing.

---------------

after closer inspection im thinking there WERE screws that managed to make there way into the body somewhere. Noticed these scratches that look like they could have been made by screws getting moved around when removing the lens.

Yikes - that's not good. Looking at mine, there are two tiny screws holding that piece on. I'm going to tighten mine right now!

Hi, your post is not making sense.

The OP has images of the top of your lens opening; the next post is of the bottom of your lens opening.

OP:

The how it should look is the way mine looks.

The how yours looks now:

WTF: take it to Canon!

The top 2 pictures show where the piece should go and what it looks like now. The bottom picture is showing where i think the screws scarred up the camera at the bottom of the lens opening.
