Hi all, I am just inputting my name etc into my camera so it comes up in the picture data and there is a section called copyright info. What would you suggest I put in there? Basically I don't want people using my shots in a commercial environment without my permission. I am limited to the amount of words I use.

It has happened to me recently with my shots ending up on a vendors site. and he pleaded ignorance to not knowing whos it was, so I figure if I put my email adress and some copyright info into them, it "may" help in the future.....Although I'm being a little naive here I think! But anyway, any tips would be welcomed

Also, all the other info in the IPTC section, how does one get info into that section? I use DPP and PS, but would like to automate it as much as possible.

File > File Info in PS, which is where I add it. You must use "Save As" to keep the exif with the image, & if you save the File Info somewhere, you can just reload it for the next image.

© is Alt + 0169 on the number keypad, so you should use © 2009 your name.

Bear in mind that this metadata can all be stripped out and changed afterwards though - It does not get 'etched in stone'

Thanks for the info photosguy. It was mainly just to know what I should write in the copyright section. What you suggested is what I have done as a watermark in the bottom corner of the pics, but I wanted to do it in the data as well.

98: Yeah, I know it can be stripped out easily, but with the watermark on the pic, and the eixf data with my name, email and copyright logo , if I find these on a site and the exif is gone and or the watermark is cropped, then that is intent.
Prob won't make any difference if someone wants to steal them again, but they can't be using the whole "I didn't know" routine like the last guy did.

Unfortunately if someone wants to steal an image there is not a lot you can do except don't pot them on the net!
But as you say if they go through all these hoops to 'clean-up' an image they know they are doing wrong.
All my images get copyright metadata added automatically when i download to the hard drive.

Adding copyright notices to your digital files (external link)

Hi photosguy.
I finally got around to typing copyright info into the body via EOS utility, and I knew of the alt+0169 trick previously, but EOS utility won't let you type it in to the camera. I had to physically write "copyright" Anway, just a bit of canon trivia.
