One thing K.R. seems to be a master of is getting traffic to his site. How many eyeballs on his site do you think this article brought?

why dont' you read ALL his web site and THEN come here to write some pertinent stuff ...

;)

My brain would drool were I to sit and read his entire site. There is some good information on there, no doubt, but the arrogant tone it's written in? Just not helpful!

lol, there'd be nothing to write. The guy's a nob who tries to pass himself off as a knowledgeable photographer. Sadly he repeats some decent lens review info (probably gathered from the actual knowlegeable) so that there are some people who are sucked into his drivel with little bits of fact. Nothing makes me cringe more than being on a nikon site (yes I shoot nikon and like the sites I visit) and having some poor dope say "Ken Rockwell says..." Because then you want to spend your time deprogramming the poor mis-informed (and I will say mis-informed because KR can't seem to get any one thing right) individual.

What's weird is that he's got some sort of strange following, even in the midst of all his mis-information.

I just keep pointing people to Bjorn's site (external link)instead. No twisted anti-entertainment there...just facts. Relevant info. No bleeding heart "click on my links to feed my family" things either. Just things one needs to know when purchasing lenses.

I'm sorry for blowing up. Ken Rockwell actually has some decent advice for a beginning photographer (such as myself), but I can't stand when ANYONE seemingly talks down to people. That's what it seems like he does. His website audience seems like it's gear for beginneers, yet he throws in ridiculous articles like these which is more acceptable for talking to his buddies in a bar. How much a pro can Rockwell be if he has to take donations to keep his website up. Not to mention that his website is seriously outdated like it is stuck in AOL 1997 mode. Build a modern, dynamic website Ken. And remember who your audience is.

Of course they seem suitable for talking to buddies in a bar, that's what he claims the site is, just a way of amusing himself and his friends and nothing should be taken seriously as he makes a lot of it up.

From his website (I've highlighted key comments):

Caveat Lector! (reader beware!)

This is my personal website. I do it all by myself. I'm just one guy with a computer who likes to take pictures. I have the playful, immature and creative, trouble-making mind of a seven-year-old, so read accordingly.
This site is purely my personal speech and opinion, and a way for me to goof around.
While often inspired by actual products and events, just like any other good news organization, I like to make things up and stretch the truth if they make an article more fun. In the case of new products, rumors and just plain silly stuff, it's all pretend. If you lack a good BS detector, please treat this entire site as a work of fiction.

This site is provided only for the entertainment of my personal friends, dogs, family and myself. I've never promoted this site. If you're reading this, you got here on your own.
Read this site at your own risk. I make a lot of mistakes. I have no proof-reader and there are plenty of pages, like this one, which have been around since the 1990s and may no longer apply or be correct.

The guy gives you fair warning that this is a site where facts aren't important, he says what he thinks is funny or amusing.

Treat it as a spoof site, written tongue in cheek, and it makes more sense. Reading it as a serious website, giving factual information, is asking for trouble. Of course the guy makes a lot of ridiculous comments and 'factual' errors, that's the whole point of the site. He isn't serious when he claims a p&s is as good as a 5D, it's a spoof.

He's a douche. Always has been.

I knew this when I was pointed to his site when I first got into photography early this year (February). I read an article called "Your Camera Doesn't Matter". As if pro's are using P&S cams to get their shots. Then he seems to only recommend Nikon DSLR's as the end all be all DSLR's when it's obvious Nikon has a gaping hole in their entry level models, not to mention they are all out dated. The only thing that I would recommend is the D40 (which is ridicously outdated but serves its purpose) and the D90 (which is hard to swallow for the beginning photographer but should last for years since it has all the latest tech). Canon entry level Rebel serious is flat out better across the board, even the XTi, XS, XSi, and T1i are all still relevent in their price range.

/end rant.

I don't think you get Ken Rockwell's humor - much of this is tongue-in-cheek, with some helpful hints mixed in. He shows us his true opinions in a fun-house mirror and I think it's great. Read "The Two-Hour-Rule (external link)." If you don't get it, I don't recommend Dilbert - stick to the 3 stooges.

Personally, I enjoy his stuff. Regarding the post before this... I wouldn't say it's 100% spoof. It's like talk radio - it's entertaining, somewhat informative, and it gives you food for thought... just be sure to take it all with a big grain of rock salt.

Enjoy Kens site at your leisure, but NEVER, EVER click a link.

Ken's like a girl scout with his cookies -- and that tripod you pick up a month from now will probably put a buck or two in his pocket.

And 1992 called -- they'd like their web design back.

This list actually makes me angry. His other idiot rants just make me laugh, but this one is just him being an a-hole. Seriously, I carry my camera on my neck so I'm just an amateur? I use a midrange zoom too! And, GASP, I might carry my 24-105 AND the 30, 50, 85mm primes!!! Crap...what a tool...

Doesn't change the fact he needs to seriously put some time money and effort into his outdated website. Maybe I should get on the Website Design forums and point out Rockwell's site and let them have a field day on it.

You guys need to get a life haha. His site, as sandpiper pointed out is a COMPLETE JOKE and SPOOF site...

Its for his own personal interest and ****, so who cares if the site is outdated and he makes up rediculous BS? That is the POINT!
