Walked the Manhattan Bridge after work and shot this from the spot I mentioned:

My 24-70 didn't fit through the gaps in the fence, but I was able to shoot through the beams in the lower part of the fence.

I don't go anywhere without my.....

I don't go anywhere without my two lens/two body travel kit. My setup is a 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens on a 40D and a 70-200mm f/4L IS lens on a 30D. I also carry a flash (420EX or 550EX), my 1.4x Canon TC, a pair of CPL and a pair of UV filters in proper sizes. I also carry a pair of OPTECH raincoats which are very inexpensive, weigh almost nothing and will protect my cameras/lenses from rain or blowing sand.

I have modified a SLIK Pro 330DX tripod into the ultimate travel pod. I switched from the longer center column to the optional shorter column and also switched from the rather heavy SLIK OEM pan/tilt head to an Adorama, Flashpoint, F1, magnesium Arca Compatible ball head. The tripod/head combo unit weighs only one pound fourteen ounces but will (with the help of an RRS L Bracket) support either of my camera/lens combinations. It is a bit short so I also carry a right angle finder.

I am a native New Yorker but, have not visited that city since the advent of digital photography.

I would be interested in the tour which allows a visitor to walk over the "TOP" of the Brooklyn Bridge.

BY THE WAY: That is a lovely image by HANGBOT!

Great shot, Hangbot... I still miss seeing the WTC though.

Thanks guys:)

JCH - yeah, the downtown skyline is flat without the towers. Also, I like your screenname: My initials are JPH, born 1977, and I'm originally from SI:D

I visited NYC two weeks ago. I used a 16-35 & 105 on Full-Frame. Perfect for me. Ultra-wide for buildings and some portraits, medium-tele for street candids. Street pics are a must in NYC! Here's my set:

So, I would suggest the 10-22 & a 60/2.8 or 85/1.8.

Cheers,

Sabesh.

Great effort for an even greater shot! Cheers.

Well, you guys talked me into it. I bought a 10-22 and should have it by Wednesday. If it isn't for me, they seem to sell pretty fast on the Sell board. But the more I look into what people have done with the UWA lenses, I have a hunch it will have a home in my bag.

I use an 11-16 Tokina on a 50D when taking pics in downtown Toronto (similar "city like" experience to NYC)...serves me well!
