Why would anyone care about 100 shots?

It could be the fact when you buy something new, you expect to receive something brand new.

If it's not new then you shouldn't be paying new price and instead floor stock or demo price. It's also the mentality or doubt if the camera has been dropped or not treated as well as it should etc.

Why do these threads ALWAYS come up? The file number indicated by the shots recorded on the CF card is NOT AT ALL an accurate way to determine number of shots taken with the camera. That number should have no effect on sales and should not give anyone grief after purchasing a new camera.

If it's such a big deal, then do what has already been suggested: RTFM and reset your file numbering.

Thanks for the above. As it was bought as BRAND NEW for £ 2,000-00, I would like to be sure it is brand new for that amount of money. Also the date and time were already correct, I didnt have to set it myself. Is that normal?

As a matter of fact, it isn't normal. Are you sure that the salesman had to cut the seal open? Or was it just regular tape?

Hi, It "looked"as though he did. I have the camera in front of me now, and the date is correct, but the time is 2 minutes wrong, but I did not set it myself. It was already like it. If a few more people think it shouldn't have the correct date and time "out of the box" I will call the shop and voice my concerns. Thanks for any info.

My 5D2 box wasn't sealed with anything; none of my Canon camera boxes were. The count on my 5D2 started with 0001 and I had to set the date & time.

Thanks, Im thinking of getting it swapped. It might be in perfect condition, but I hate to be duped at this cost!

I would have done the same thing Ben. Hope the new one is like it should be. I have had to set the time and date on all my new cameras. And once you format a memory card, it should not be able to pull the last image number off in camera. I have never had that happen. It's hard enough to do a recovery on a formatted card so I doubt the camera would be able to pull anything off after a format.

Yeah, a shutter count of 100+ is ALWAYS something I equate to the camera being dropped, there's no doubt, you wouldn't be able to tell that otherwise.

Good point.

<rolls eyes>

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)
