I happened to notice this little fly - it struck me as weird that it has such a long neck...

I assume that it's carniverous (it was sitting on my BBQ).

It looks as though it's had a bit of a tussle with a spider, from the silk tangling it's wings and the missing antenna.

I've never seen one like it before.

Thanks, but by any standard (well, the standards here), they're lousy photos. Hand held manual focusing in declining light with an underpowered flash. I only really took these shots because I've never seen a fly like this before and I wanted to know what the heck it was!

In my book any pic of a rare /odd bug is just as good as a beautiful picture of a common bug. You just don't get the opportunity to get it "right" so often.
I get a much bigger buzz taking a pic of something I haven't seen before than I do from composing the "perfect" pic of something common.
Depends on where the interest lies I guess.
