Ok... I tried to throw in some comments on all shots, but I am a newb so take it with a grain of salt. Good work by all...

Kendoway - Newly Engaged - I like the shot it definitely conveys the joy had by persons newly in love. It is a happy shot.

airfrogusmc - New Subject Matter - A creative twist on the theme, but not knowing that you have never shot hummingbirds before the picture doesn't convey 'new'. A well done shot though - I love the colors and no doubt a VERY tough capture. Good Job.

John_B - New Baby Broccoli Buds - Nicely done, I see the delicate features of a new life in the buds, the color has a fresh appeal, nice and sharp.

Lore - Strawberry Sprout - Cute. I like the relationship between the decoration of the pottery and the sprout. I do lose the subject (sprout) a bit though. I see how you used DOF to highlight the sprout, but it is just too small.

MSJGD - Untitled - Interesting capture, I see the new life ahead of this growing foal. I often drive by horses and am drawn to photograph them, I just haven't actually done it though. The sight of a young one like this might convince me to get off my butt. A little too much going on in your photo though. You should have asked the other horses to move aside ;)

CalebG - New Kitten - Adorable, I am a sucker for kittens. Nice composition with the reflection and DOF. The eyes say 'new friend' too.

dhnick102 - Untitled - Good job. It never ceases to amaze me how new life sprouts from among old life. I like the contrasting images of the new sprout and the dead leaves and undergrowth. I would like it better if the color of the sprout was greener to make it stand out more.

Flo - New Spin - Nice, that spider has his work cut out, but he is off to a start. The image is a little soft, but it is a challenging shot.

Jason C - Sadie's first day at home - Good job, I like the DOF as well as the caring eye contact the mother? has with the baby, it puts emotion into the pic. When I brought home my daughter 2 years ago I had no idea of what that would be the beginning of. I do lose a bit of the baby in this pic though, for some reason I focus more on the mom.

yagit80 - New Kicks - Nice Dunks. Way to think creatively, the kind of new possession that a young adult will keep looking new for as long as possible. Good job on a different kind of exposure, though it looks a bit soft although your lighting can't get much softer than glow in the dark.

chrisisonfire23 - New Friends - Nice work, you cover the theme from several angles, new life in a baby, new friends in the toys around her. Good shot and creative approach. BTW. Your first entry of the new lens was tack sharp... I actually reached out to clear the dust off my screen only to realize it is on your lens.

Shadowblade - New Day - Stunning landscape! Good juxtaposition between the cold mountain snow and warm morning rays. Beautiful.

tonylong - New Growth - Intriguing capture. I like the color and DOF, the fern? definitely stands out as the subject.

And the winner is...

1st. John_B - Baby Broccoli Buds.

2nd. Kendoway - Newly Engaged.
3rd. Jason C - Sadie's First Day at Home.

Honorable mention goes to airfrogusmc. When voting I kept coming back to your image, it is a really good shot, it just didn't really convey the theme IMHO.

Good job all. This was fun, but I would rather be on the shooting side of this competition :)
