Since smartphones are becoming ever more prevalent, I thought it prudent to make a mobile version of my website.

If you're mobile, let me know how it looks:

www.cdifoto.mobi (external link)

And no, it's not fancy. Fancy is for computers. Smartphones have small screens and limited display capabilities.

Thanks Matt. Yours loaded just fine on my BlackBerry as well. I couldn't get mine optimized for mobile without a major rework so I decided to use the .mobi domain anyway as its own website.

That free optimization/conversion service with the purchase of a .mobi domain doesn't work worth a damn by the way. It doesn't do anything that my mobile browsers don't already do or try to do. I don't recommend it.

cdifoto, I went on your website on my Nokia E71 using Opera Mini and even though I typed cdifoto.mobi, it asks me if I'm on a smartphone. I click yes and it says it might not work, asks me to continue or go back yet both result in the same original page. I opened cdifoto.mobi on my computer and it opened as you would expect a mobile site does.

Hmm. I'll have to check on that. I was futzing around a bit last night and may have broken something. Thanks for the info!

Thanks Matt. I think I had bad meta tags and deleted those, but the real issue seems to be with Opera Mini* caching the old site where the url used to be pointed. I'm trying to get assistance with those guys on that.

*Opera Mini uses a server between the handheld and the website's server to compress/convert the data to be mobile-friendly.

Interesting, did not know that...That is kinda annoying as if a site changes and their server does not empty cache on a regular basis how do you know the site will be updated?

Yeah it has me rather annoyed as well. I'll wait to hear from support though.

I'm looking now at creating a site specifically for mobile phones.

cdifoto, your site worked beautifully on both my HTC VX6900 and my Samsung I760 (both on Verizon). In fact, I may steal portions of your design concept.

Sauk, I had trouble with yours. It seemd to load fine, but I could never get to your portfolio. When I clicked on it, it blinked and stayed on the main page with some fuzzy lines--probably incomplete images--across the middle.

hmm, it should take you to another page that has links to my sports and portrait portfolio pages.

I will double check it...you might not be able to render the header2 I have setup

**ok I went back and tweaked it, let me know if you are still having issues.

Yeah I figure smart phones are extremely popular and continue to grow in usage so having a site for them is probably a good idea. Especially since the entire point is simplicity and simplicity is easy to do.

Thanks. Good to know it's working well.

There really isn't much to the design but I guess that's kind of the point. hah.
