Hey, I have got the opportunity to photo Bruce Springsteen tonight. We will be shooting from 25-30 meters. Will I come close enough with a Canon 5D and a 70-200mm to take photos like this, without cropping the image?

(I have a x1.4 extender as well)

That looks like it was shot from a soundboard. Are you going to be in a seat or what? By the sounds of it you're in the crowd so it all depends on how it ends up being set up. But the 70-200 would probably be your best bet to get a shot like that.

It ought to be OK, but I'd bring the 1.4 to be safe - after all, the Boss isn't all that tall.

It's from the soundboard, I am sorry I forgot to mention it.

If you said you had an xxD I would say, no problem. On a FF, maybe not. Bring the 1.4x, just in case. Also depending on the lighting, and cranked out to 200mm, and no IS, you might be hard pressed to get blur and shake free images no matter how high you set the ISO.

The sample you posted I would have probably junked unless it was the only shot I had.

bohdank: the concert will start 7:30 in the evening, I think the sun is gone for the day around 10-11 so... My gf has a 70-300 4-5,6 IS USM I can borrow if I want.

Well, with the 1.4 you get 280mm f/4, so while you're short 20mm, you're still better off by one stop.

I've shot shows with my 70-200 f4 IS that were completly under lights...evening, outdoors and got good results. All depends on how well lit the stage is and your technique.

If it starts at 7:30 assuming the stage is not completely in the shade, you'll be more than fine, at least till the sun goes down.

I am quite happy with the results, Canon 5D + 1.4 extender + 70-200mm 2.8
