For all the naysayers, I don't know this person directly, but have been following her blog for a while....enjoy the pictures. ;) (Tiff, make sure you look!!!) Clicky. (external link)

Oh look. Another little boy in rainbow baby legs. (mine have disappeared btw)

That reminds me, the packaging I got from my other non-rainbow babylegs had pictures on the back of dad, mom, big bro, sis, and babies all in the rainbow babylegs.

What were the naysayers saying?

That rainbow babylegs on a boy is going to make him need therapy.

While Kona will, I'm sure, enjoy playing with the new pup, he's got to be exercised. This is going to be fun.

I'm not a clothing for dogs persona at all. Not at all. so putting booties on him is gonna be tough but still, if it will get him out and exercised, then we'll all suffer through the dorkiness.

What do you do? Having a wander through the new posts I found myself in some of the "Gear" forums. I know it's not a safe place to play but hey I survived the mad muggers of Barcelona.

What do you do when you read a post that is either complete nonsense or just plain ridiculous.

One "super knowledgeable" guy is offering advice on how to use a 100-400 by saying "My settings with that lens is usually F8, ISO400, AV mode." I really want to point out that most people change their camera settings to match the scene, light and conditions, he must have incredible patience to wait for the conditions to match his settings.

Oh heck I am going to give up!

That thread degenerated fast. Lots of. Hey, I can fix this, see the 100-400 doesn't really suck" stuff.

I still struggle with this but maturity or something may be helping. There are way to many stupid people in the world to bother trying to correct them.
I hate the 100-400 argument that it is a "tricky" lens that must be used a certain way under certain conditions. I have seen good copies and bad copies. If you can only use it at one focal length and aperture setting in certain light I am convinced you have a bad copy. Spending $1500 on a zoom that only works in one spot is silly. This reminds me I need to send my piece of cwap 1-400 back, again.

I was deliberately non specific about what I was going to give up, I have free reign from giving up the thought that there is any hope for the world, to giving up any hope that Teresa will give in and go and make a cup of tea in the next 10 minutes. :-)

What I really have given up on is the thought that there can be any element of compromise in some of these gear wars threads.

lol, there are some peoples opinion is worth about the paper it is written on. Yours, Neil, on the other hand comes form experience and is worth gold.

I have not ventured there much at all lately. There was a time when for the most part, they were quite informative. Of course there will be differing opinions, but SOME of these folks need to understand this and that THEIR way is not the only one. I do love hearing differing opinions on stuff presented in a helpful way, and I usually pull little bits from most of them to form my own way of thinking on something. I remember getting stuck in a thread where a few folks bashed Canon badly because they released a real dud in the 5d MkII, and this tiny issue they were dwelling on was just a minor firmware fix. Nothing people said, who actually bought the camera, even swayed their thinking in the least.
