I need some help trying to get files off a card. It has a full day and a bits shooting on it, but shows no files. I am 99% sure it never got formatted. It Explorer it shows the folder DICIM/100 Canon and the date of this folder is the date I am missing, but it shows no files in it. LR too does not see any files. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be, or if there is a way of recovering these files?

If the images are not showing up in Explorer than I would say you will need the recovery software from the card manufacturer. Dan's here and I think he also has a favorite that he has recommended before.

Ok now this is just wrong. The kid on this weeks cover of Sports Illustrated happens to be a 16 year old high school sophomore from Las Vegas. He is supposed to be the next great baseball player and from the video I have seen it may be true. However his decision to forgo the last two years of high school, take his GED and then enroll in Community College all to be eligible for the 2010 MLB draft seems kinda stupid to me.

When I lived in Las Vegas, there was an alternative high school on the east side, I believe it was called Vo Tech. It worked well for kids who wanted to make a living in one of the skilled trades. This move seems similar to me.

that's what happened to me too. My computer couldn't read the card, the camera couldn't. There was a mac program that read it for me but there are a couple of other windows programs that will (for free) though I don't know what they are now.

Jim, it was the card too...not the camera.

My office is in total disarray getting ready to move it and I can't find my Sandisk recovery card, it is a 4GB Extreme III card. I will try the link you posted. Thanks.

I am sure the father and the kid are doing it only for monetary reasons. But I can understand where the writer of the story is coming from. The kids life and education have been completely messed up for years already. He spends so much time at various baseball camps etc that he barely goes to school as it is. If he is going to be dumb earlier he may as well get as much money as possible before he blows out a knee.

I haven't tried it in the camera yet, but both Explorer and LR can't read it. I am installing the software Dan linked to right now.

The school is still there. It is actually a top notch school (especially for high school equivalent) for airplane mechanics, woodworking, welding, cooking, drafting etc. Many of these kids have had issues and may not be allowed at the normal high schools. At least they are able to graduate from school with a diploma and have an marketable skill to get a job.

I'll stay off my soap box....but I do think there needs to be some serious rule changes and enforcement when it comes to school age students and professional sports. No degree....no play...until your class graduates.

Yeah. Parents push sports where I live. I am vilified by the kids if I give homework when they have an away game (worse is when they have a test after that).

Random stories from me today:

I've been trying really hard to keep on top of cleaning and laundry in my house. Corey has noticed.

Me: busy doing dishes and cleaning.
Corey: How come you're cleaning up right away all of a sudden
Me: just trying to keep on top of the house cleaning
Corey: Good, if you want a new/remodeled house you had better keep it up.
Me: holding tongue to keep from suggesting that he go copulate with himself.

Story from yesterday:

We went out to the in laws camper on the lake for a birthday/father's day celebration. FIL was holding Ian and Ian was playing with his moustache. Ian likes to grab your bottom row of teeth if you open your mouth and he stared doing this to FIL. I looked over and FIL is licking Ian's had like crazy....just back and forth and making silly noises. I told him that I thought that was gross and he shrugged it off and kept doing it. Then, Ian rubs his hands (and FIL's slobber) all over his face. I was totally grossed out. Finally MIL got him to stop and I got Ian all wiped down but ugh...totally grossed out.

I'm kind of torn. If the kid is really that good and can easily begin a career where in the first year he will make more than some of his classmates will make in decades, why should he not be given the chance. Is it eally that different than the music savants that at age 10 give up all else to concentrate on their instrument, or math savants who get into college and post grad work before their classmates graduate HS just to study math? It's just another type of savant, that's all.

The unfortunate thing is that it comes with a ton of $$ at a time where the kid has nt developed good sense and money really messes you up. I'd almost like to see all the sallery put into a trust yo be paid out when the kid turns 21.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I'm guessing your FIL was made to wear rainbow leggings as a kid?

JK of course that does seem kinda weird to me as well.

That is the bigger (than 1 kid) issue of the story. How many other parents are now going to pour a ton of money and time into a kid that doesn't have the ability to play the sport or the instrument. To many parents want their kid to be the next star. This is why we have baby and toddler beauty pageants. Don't even get me started on that one.

But people have this same conversation every time a young star comes along. Sometimes it works out like Sidney Crosby. Sometimes it doesn't like Ryan Leaf.
